Poverty. One economic issue almost every country around the world can relate upon. Although some countries seem to be successful in their economic status, but what lies behind that success is the people who are still poor. Those people who beg on the streets for food or money, little children who hold out their hand, teary eyes, and sad looks on their faces, begging you to give them something, anything, handicapped people who hold out plastic cups and silently begging you. Poverty is one reason why these people risk their lives begging out in the streets. Everyday, these people grown in number because they do not have other choices. They do not have enough money to buy certain necessities for their family. They cannot find an appropriate job because they weren't able to avail education, still because of poverty. Some even die because they do not have enough money to hospitalize their sick relatives or buy appropriate medicines to treat the disease. Why do these people suffer? Why do they get hungry? Why did they not have the proper education that they need? A lot of questions pop into mind, but they all sum up with one big question: What causes POVERTY?

"In a country well governed, poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed, wealth is something to be ashamed of." - Confucius

Being aware of the growing population of people in poverty is one positive way of being able to know how you can help in lessening or erasing this problem. As a student, we should be fully aware of this issue because even if we are still studying, we should be able to help in any way, big or small, just to lessen this problem. How can we help? Well, we can donate old clothing to people who need them more than we do. Handing out a small amount of change from your pocket can bring hope to them.

Whenever there's a positive side, there's also the opposite side of the spectrum. The quote of Confucius, as stated above, clearly defines one factor of corruption which is corruption. It's sad how greedy government officials tend to blind themselves of the real situation of the economy. Sometimes being corrupt starts within self. So to eliminate corruption, we must all practice being honest and true to oneself and to others.
